108 St Georges Road

,

Toorak

Situated along the Yarra River, 108 St Georges Road is a testament to mid-century architectural elegance, meticulously brought to life by Guilford Bell in 1965.

Revitalised in collaboration with RAID Studio (Architects and Interior Designers), the property marries innovative landscape design with its historical essence, establishing a seamless dialogue between the built environment and nature.

Landscaping showcases a harmonious blend of Australian natives and exotic species, effectively enhancing the home's connection to its riverbank setting. Indigenous plants like Kangaroo Grass and Banksias complement the Californian Fan Palms, providing striking vertical interest in the garden. Ferns flourish in shaded areas, creating lush, inviting retreats while offering a rich tapestry of texture. The less-structured landscape invites exploration, with softly cascading greenery spilling from formed concrete planters that border balconies and terraces. The intentional use of softly cascading foliage emphasises a horizontal design language that echoes the home’s refined aesthetic. As residents descend from the higher level to the lush courtyard and entertaining spaces by the irregular pool, they are enveloped in a botanical atmosphere that fosters a sense of tranquillity amidst urban life. This thoughtful approach exemplifies contemporary landscape architecture, honouring the site’s heritage while enhancing its natural beauty.
